USludge4Fertilizer ranked TOP 1 in Sustainability Innovation
We are immensely proud to announce a major achievement for the Casting & Sonoprocessing Lab@UMinho research group!
Our project, USludge4Fertilizer, has been distinguished as the TOP 1 project in the prestigious Researchers and PhD Students category of the H2O & SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION HUB Call for Projects 2025.
The project was successfully pitched in the Final on October 14-15 by our PhD Student, José Pedro Fernandes.
Developed by José Fernandes, Prof. Hélder Puga, and Prof. Paulo J. Ramísio, USludge4Fertilizer addresses critical global challenges in water treatment and agricultural sustainability.
This novel technology idea provides an integrated solution for Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) sludge management by combining two powerful elements:
- Ultrasound Disintegration: Utilizing advanced sonoprocessing techniques to efficiently break down sludge matrices.
- AI-Based Optimization: Employing intelligent algorithms to precisely control the process for maximum efficiency.
This recognition reaffirms our laboratory's commitment to delivering impactful research at the intersection of materials processing and environmental engineering.
A heartfelt thank you to the H2O & SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION HUB for this recognition!
